Adding Personal Touches to Your Wedding

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Lesley-Ann Graham A perfect wedding isn’t only beautiful, it’s a very personal occasion too. It’s got carefully selected details that are meaningful to you and your fianc. Here are some very simple ways to add your own subtle, unique touches to your wedding ceremony and reception: 1. Write your own wedding vows. It doesn’t have to read like poetry; the important thing is that it comes from your own heart. Print it out on an index card and keep it handy during the ceremony. 2. Compile a CD with songs that symbolize your relationship or how it evolved. Play this during your reception, or even burn a copy and distribute as souvenirs. Insert a small piece of paper explaining why you chose those songs. 3. Instead of tossing your bouquet, present it to your mother (or a dear friend or mentor) during your reception. You can also have an additional bouquet made for your groom to present his mother at the same time. 4. Guests often have free time on their hands during their reception. In the center of the table, place several pens and small pieces of paper in a pretty basket. Ask them to write their wishes, prayers, or advice for you and your fianc. Compile in a scrapbook. 5. Most wedding reception programs revolve around the couple: friends give speeches. Do something for the guests. Make a video of you and your fianc talking about the people who’ve taught you what true love means. Mention friends who’ve demonstrated real loyalty, or family members who made great sacrifices for you. Intersperse your video with their photos. This is your chance to say thank you to all of them. 6. If you have a close friend or family member who passed away, make him or her part of the occasion by inserting a small photo in your bouquet, or lighting a tribute candle at the church ceremony. 7. If you have ethnic roots, incorporate a marriage ritual from your culture into your ceremony or perform it during your reception. 8. Wear an heirloom. For example, you can use your grandmother’s veil, or wear a locket that belongs to your mother. This is an excellent way of creating a sense of continuity between generations, celebrating your own family even as you go on to begin your own. 9. Prepare an audio-video presentation that will be played during the last dance of the bride with the father. This can be just a simple montage of childhood photos. A guaranteed tear-jerker! 10. If you have kids, help them feel like they’re part of the new family by asking them to stand next to you as you say your vows. 11. Add little elements that say something about your relationship as a couple. For example, if you’re giving away picture frames, insert a poem that you wrote or a copy of your wedding vows. If you met at a beach (and would rather not have a beach-themed wedding) incorporate shells into your table centerpiece. Money Saving Auto Financing Tips

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Evert_DuToit]Evert DuToit So you have decided you are ready to take the plunge and buy that car youve been dreaming about! Whether your dream car is new or used, there are some questions you need to ask yourself about the financing of your new wheels. And obviously you need to answer those questions very honestly in order to save yourself from trouble down the road. Questions like: - Do I really have room in my budget to take on car payments? - Do I have the cash for a down payment? - How much can I really afford? - How long will it take to pay of the car loan? - Did I take the hidden costs of car ownership into consideration? Things like insurance, fuel and maintenance add a significant expense to owning a car for the first time, or it may increase when you purchase a replacement vehicle. Buying a car is likely to be the biggest expense you take on other than buying a house. Few people can afford to buy a car outright in cash. Typically youll make a 10% - 20% down payment and have the rest of the price financed. Car dealerships are only too happy to provide you with that financing as they often make more profit from the interest you pay on your car loan than they do on the sale price of the car. And that interest can make out a very large portion of the total amount youll pay over the lifetime of a car loan. When you are looking for auto financing, there are much better options than dealer financing. It will be worth your time to research your options, compare interest rates and terms offered by different lending institutions and make sure you know about any hidden costs, like loan application fees. You will almost certainly be better of getting a loan from a credit union or even a bank, than making use of dealer financing. There are also several independent financing companies that can hook you up. Being a member of a credit union has very definite advantages. Credit unions typically charge lower interest rates than traditional banks, and the application process is usually simplified because they already know you. You could get approval within hours of submitting your loan application. Once you have your financing in place, you can go to the dealership and start negotiating the price of the car you want. Having a guaranteed car loan in place before you talk to the dealer gives you a very strong bargaining chip, since you can easily move on to another dealer to secure a lower price for the car you want. The most important thing to remember is to do all your research before you start talking to the dealership. Find out prices for the car you want, invoice and sticker price, so youll have the knowledge to bargain with the dealership. Research and compare financing options in terms of interest rates and terms, and secure financing before talking to the dealership. How Much Time Should You Spend On Marketing?

Sunday, December 30th, 2007

By Debbie LaChusa As a solo-professional or small business owner, you have many responsibilities. Not only do you have to run your business and manage all the tasks associated with that, you also have to market that business. But just how should you divvy up your day? How much time should you spend on marketing? I believe you need to spend at least half of your time on marketing. In fact, as a business owner, I believe you really only have two main responsibilities: 1) Spending your time on revenue-producing activities 2) Marketing your business Your time is valuable, so you shouldn’t waste it on mundane tasks that someone else could easily do. You should be spending half your time generating income for your business. This might include things like servicing your clients and creating products. The other half of your time should be spent on marketing to grow your business. That might include activities like writing articles and press releases, doing speaking engagements, writing and publishing an ezine or newsletter, advertising, relationship marketing, networking or Internet marketing. Any activity that is designed to bring you more clients or more sales. But what about “all those other things” that have to get done? All those administrative business tasks like paying bills, invoicing clients, going to the bank, picking up office supplies, fulfilling orders, monthly bookkeeping and clerical tasks like filing? Or all of those household tasks like grocery shopping, cleaning your house, and doing laundry? Find a way to delegate “all those other things” …so you can focus your time on your top two priorities. If your time is worth $50 an hour or $150 an hour and you are spending it on $10 an hour tasks, it just doesn’t make sense. What if you can’t afford to hire help? I was in this boat for a long time myself. My mentors kept telling me to create a team and delegate. But I thought I couldn’t afford to. When I finally took the leap of faith and began assembling a team, my entire business and life changed. I went from being a lone ranger doing everything in my businesses (yes, it was very tiring!) to a team that includes a bookkeeper, CPA, attorney, virtual assistant, writer, art director and production artist, media buyer, web developer, product manufacturer, fulfillment house, computer technician, real estate partners, property management company and others I’m sure I’m forgetting about right now. No, I don’t have an office with all these people on staff. I am still a “company of one.” These people are partners that I pay for specific services when I need them. And I’ve enlisted the help of my family with the household tasks and hired housekeepers so I don’t have to spend my valuable work hours or my precious free time on these activities. Yes, I still do some things I probably shouldn’t. But the point is, over the past two years, I’ve learned to find experts and utilize their services to help me grow my business. And even though I thought I couldn’t afford to hire a team… Now I can’t imagine running my business (or my life) any other way. And paying for this help has never been an issue. Because the time they have freed up allows me to focus on my top two priorities, which has grown my businesses. Your Marketing Step Look around. Are you trying to do it all yourself? Are you running your business as a lone ranger? Are you spending time on activities that someone else could be doing? If you are, I encourage you to step back and re-evaluate how your business is structured. And create a structure and a team that will allow you to spend your time on marketing and revenue-producing activities. And then watch your business grow! Want to see how I spend my time? Do You Have Ants In Your Home?

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Ena Clewes On any given day, you may see hordes of ants, marching into your home. They may be searching for food and water, shelter from outside elements .Here are some steps you can take to get rid of these industrious creatures. Follow the ant to its source of entry, could be a window, molding crevice or floor crack. With Boric acid, form a barrier at the source, or use laundry detergent, must be in powder form.If they have attacked any food, remove it to a garbage container, outside your home.If they have invaded your kitchen garbage can, take it outside, hose it out and wash with dishwashing liquid.Put any food they have NOT found in zip lock bags, or in sealable plastic containers. or the refrigerator.Ants can penetrate metal-threaded lids on glass jars. Glass jars are immune from ants, only if sealed with rubber gasket.Once you have secured the food, vacuum up the ant line, along with some cornstarch( this helps to suffocate them inside the bag). Use dishwashing liquid and hot water to wash the area around the ant line to erase any scent of the trail.Seal the area where the ants entered; caulk windows and cracks and weather strip doors. Apply duct tape or petroleum jelly over holes as a temporary fix.Go outside and see if you can find out where the ants entered the house. They may have used an overhanging branch to enter, if so, trim it off.Check the area in an hour. If you see any single ants, or scouts searching the area, squash them( sorry!) but they are checking out the area for future invasions! If you wish to wipe out the ant population, use ant traps that contain” Boric Acid”. The returning ants poison the whole colony. I would point out however, that in the garden, ants can play a beneficial role, so only use the above method if absolutely necessary Here are some tips that may help; Some natural ant deterrents include crumbled bay leaves, cinnamon, peppermint leaves and cayenne pepper. If an indoor plant is infested with ants, take it outside and flood it several times with a hose, to remove them.Insecticidal sprays kill only the ants that you spray, which will be a very small percentage of a colony, and won’t prevent future invasions. Please make sure, if you do use a spray, keep children and pets away. In the house, I found that sprinkling the doorways with a powder cleaner ie, Ajax, kept the ants from crossing the line of powder and they did not enter the house. One word of warning!! If you have Carpenter ants, which are a larger species, as they burrow into wood and cause terrible damage, do NOT keep any piles of decaying wood near your house, as this attracts them. The methods I have outlined above, if used diligently, should go a long way to eliminate your pesky visitors. Challenge Coin Display Cases and Challenge Coins Tips

Thursday, December 27th, 2007

By Paton Jackson I find it amazing that the interest and popularity of challenge coins and challenge coin displays keeps rising. I get many questions about military challenge coins so I have decided to gather some valuable tips for you. The most popular challenge coins are navy challenge coins, marine corps challenge coins, army challenge coins, air force challenge coins and police challenge coins. Which one do you prefer? Challenge coins are more precious than one can imagine they usually worth a couple of bucks, but they have a sentimental value no one can evaluate. Thats way; you must protect your military challenge coins by using a challenge coin display case. Buy a challenge coin display that totally answers your needs: 1. One that will make you proud of your challenge coins collection Some have dozens of challenge coins from navy challenge coin, marine corps challenge coins and army challenge coin to air force challenge coins and police challenge coins. A collection like this could be really impressive. 2. One that will fully protect your challenge coins Most of the challenge coin display cases have a plastic capsule for each individual coin. I find the military challenge coins a bit magical. Did you know that no one can point exactly when the first challenge coin was made? Some say that the first one is date to World War 1. Others say that the first military challenge coin is from the Vietnam War. I believe that people are just starting now to understand the real value of challenge coins. A good investment would be purchasing as many different challenge coins as you can. They are going to be an expensive collectible item in a few years. But one should remember that a challenge coin represents values before everything support to the organization minted on the coin whether it is a navy challenge coin, marine corps challenge coin or any other organization. Scottish Wedding Invitations

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Grant Lindsay Scottish wedding invitations have long been popular with couples who are of Scottish heritage but their popularity is growing worldwide. There is something mystical about the Scottish highlands and Celtic symbols that attract admirers from all over the globe. Many couples are now deciding to have a Scottish theme to their wedding, even if they are not getting married in Scotland, and Scottish wedding invitations are an essential part of the special occasion. Everyone can now add that touch of Celtic tradition by sending Scottish wedding invitations. There is no set format for a Scottish wedding invitation but there are some traditional aspects that you can incorporate to add that authentic feel. The most obvious of these is Scottish tartan. Each Scottish clan, or family, has their own unique tartan design associated with them and no Scottish wedding invitation would be complete without a piece of this Scottish heritage. On a modern style of Scottish wedding invitation, you could have a family crest emblazoned on each card, with a bow made from the family tartan. However, if you really want to create a special Scottish wedding invitation then why not have scroll-style invitations, tied with your clans tartan? The choice is endless and there are numerous options to include tartan on a Scottish wedding invitation. A border designed using the tartan can add a stylish and personalized feel to your Scottish wedding invitations. Of course, tartan is not the only traditionally Scottish article that can be added to a Scottish wedding invitation. There are several other items that are associated with Scotland that would be perfect adornments for any Scottish wedding invitation. The thistle, for example, is the national flower of Scotland and is often seen emblazoned on crests and flags. The cross of St Andrew, with the white cross on a blue background, is well-known as the national flag of Scotland and can often provide the inspiration for the colours of your Scottish wedding invitation if you are undecided. It is worth researching some of the other Scottish wedding traditions before deciding on the final design and content of your Scottish wedding invitations. Any wedding invitation is intended to give the guests a feel for what type of event the big day is going to be. Perhaps you want to include some Gaelic script, or incorporate the Celtic knots into the perfect Scottish wedding invitation. You may also want to continue the style of your Scottish wedding invitation into the Order of Service for the ceremony itself, menus and place cards for the reception or even thank you cards for your guests. The internet is a great place to start if you are looking for inspiration to create your perfect Scottish wedding invitation. The Importance Of Communication Skills in All Areas of Life

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Gabriel J. Adams Maintaining a good relationship is part of living healthy. Your communication skills are important to maintaining those relationships that help you be healthy. How do you communicate? How often do you communicate? Do you initiate conversation? The people we interact with on a regular basis see you at your best and at your worst. You probably want a healthy overflow of those best moments. Communicating wisely and effectively can help you. No one likes to be offended and no one likes to be insulted. These are common sense statements, but it is amazing how often this is ignored. The usage of profanities in any conversation can be taken as insults at anytime. One of the best ways to avoid this mistake is to make a conscious choice to not use profanity. Insults can come in two forms, words and/or gestures. You can avoid a lot of problems by thinking before you speak. Choosing your words before sharing them may be all you need to bring a smile to someones face rather than a frown. Think about how you communicate. Sometimes the way you say something can mean the exact opposite of what you intended. Think about the message your body communicates to others. Crossing your arms can send the message that you dont care or you cant be bothered with the message being communicated to you. When was the last time you called that best friend? Part of communicating is taking the time to say I care by starting conversation and initiating the contact whether it be by phone, email or in person. Do you initiate contact with your friends and family? Do you call and share your thoughts and concerns? Sometimes it’s up to you to make the contact and this is a healthy way of communicating to others that you care about them. Take the initiative to say that you care. Visit the site of author Mark D. A Look at Metal Gazebos

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Alison Cole If youre looking for the strength, stability, sturdiness, and longevity of a metal gazebo, you have plenty of options to fit your needs. They come as 4-sided structures, all the way to 12-sided structures, as well as irregular structures like rectangles, ovals, and multi-sectioned shapes. They often boast many flourishes, such as swirling, plant-like shapes. Despite their not being made of wood, they have a very graceful feel to them capable of complimenting any outdoor setting. Most metal gazebos come in aluminum, or steel and wrought iron. Aluminum is the less expensive and more lightweight material. It will do just fine under most circumstances. But if youre looking for a much more permanent structure, steel or wrought iron is your best bet. These metals are much heavier than aluminum and therefore stand up better to hard winds. Another consideration for some consumers is that steel and iron are not likely to be damaged by vandalism. So while steel and iron are more expensive than aluminum, you might save money in the long run, because they will last. Most metal gazebos dont have a contiguous roof to keep off rain or snow. You can either leave your metal gazebo that way and appreciate it for its aesthetic value, or you can add a fitted canopy. These are often made out of a heavy canvass or polymers. This open design means metal gazebos are great for displaying plants that hang in pots from the roof or climb like vines up the sides. Adding plants to a metal gazebo will bring more shade and beauty to the area. The best part about any metal gazebo is its ability to withstand everything that a wood gazebo is prone to. Rot, termites, fading, warping, twisting, chipping, checking, discoloring these elements are nothing to a metal gazebo. Gazebos Info provides detailed information about spa, garden, patio, canopy, screened, metal, and vinyl gazebos, as well as gazebo plans and kits. Gazebos Info is the sister site of Awnings Web. Do not let preconceived notions of the college experience stop you. 1. It costs too much to go back to college. Really? How much does it cost not to have your degree? According to the March 2000 report by the U.S. Census Bureau, college graduates earn an average of 62% more income than non-college graduates. 2. I do not have time to attend classes. I know I didnt. That is why I found an alternative. You can earn an entire accredited bachelors degree without ever stepping foot in a classroom. There are numerous options for getting your degree that do not include campus attendance. 3. I do not have the time to study. Like most Americans, my TV was on constantly. I found by just turning it off I had more than enough time to finish my degree and continue on through graduate school. 4. Im too old. It is never too late to learn. There are many reasons for getting a college degree and experiencing a great sense of accomplishment. Maybe youre past youre working years. Many alternative students, including seniors, are completing their degrees for self satisfaction. 5. It will take too long. This is one of the biggest myths of all. Most people think that tackling a degree will take 6-10 years since it will have to be done part-time. If you take traditional route, you are probably right. However, with the many distance education options, you could complete an entire bachelors degree in less than a year. Even going at an extremely relaxed pace, you should be finished well under the four years it would take going the traditional route Jack Mize, the “Degree Wiz” tested out of three years of college in less than one year using credit by examination. He spent less than $3000 total on tution, testing fees and study materials.
